Wellbeing is not shaped by the clinical hour alone. It is shaped by the systems, environments, relationships, and ways of living that surround and sustain it. Hygieia Innovation was created to hold space for that broader conversation. An interdisciplinary wellbeing collaboration launching late Fall 2026, Hygieia Innovation brings together practitioners, designers, educators, artists, technologists, environmental stewards, and community leaders to critically examine and reimagine the conditions that make wellbeing possible. This is MA'AT's Continuity Through Innovation dimension in practice. Not a conference, but a gathering built to spark what comes next.
Hygieia Innovation is an interdisciplinary wellbeing collaboration built around the belief that the most important conversations about health and care are not happening in any single discipline. They require the perspectives of people who design spaces, grow food, build communities, make art, practice medicine, develop technology, and imagine futures, in conversation with one another.
The initiative takes its name from Hygieia, the ancient figure associated not with the treatment of illness but with the conditions that sustain health. That distinction matters. Hygieia Innovation is not focused on fixing what is broken. It is focused on understanding and reimagining what makes wellbeing possible in the first place.
Dr. Chapman's belief is straightforward: in a time of rapid technological change, what restores us is imagination, relationship, and culture. Hygieia Innovation is built to cultivate exactly that.
Beginning in late Fall 2026, Hygieia Innovation will convene recurring gatherings known as the Hygieia Salons. These are intimate, interdisciplinary spaces designed to spark dialogue, challenge assumptions, and support new relationship formation across disciplines that do not often find themselves in conversation with one another.
Each salon is grounded in shared experience, centered around food, conversation, and creative exchange. The format is intentionally unhurried, creating space for reflection, curiosity, and the kind of thinking that does not fit neatly into a continuing education credit or a professional development workshop.
The salons are not limited to healthcare topics. They draw from the full range of conditions that shape how people live, relate, heal, and flourish. Conversations may touch on:
Hygieia Salons are designed for people who do not think the answers to wellbeing's most important questions belong to any one field. This includes practitioners across health and behavioral health disciplines, educators, architects and designers, environmental stewards, artists and makers, engineers, founders, and developers interested in partnering with health professionals, public systems professionals, community organizers, and anyone else whose work touches the conditions that sustain life.
Hygieia Innovation is an investment in the kind of thinking and relationship-building that practice life rarely makes room for. The intended outcome is not a deliverable in the traditional sense. It is a shift: in how participants see what is possible for health and community life, and in the relationships formed that may carry those ideas forward.
Participants can expect:
This is not networking in the traditional sense, and it is not measured the way most business gatherings are measured. The early focus is building community and fostering imagination first, with the understanding that meaningful partnerships and innovation tend to follow from genuine connection rather than the other way around.
Hygieia Innovation is currently in development. Those interested in learning more about upcoming salons, partnership opportunities, and future gatherings are invited to express interest and join the developing network. Early interest helps shape the direction of the initiative and ensures you are among the first to receive updates as the launch approaches.
