A Professional Will for Practitioners Who Carry Responsibility Forward

Every practitioner in independent practice carries a responsibility that extends beyond the clinical or client-facing hour. What happens to your clients, your records, and your professional obligations if you are suddenly unable to continue your work? A professional will for practitioners is one of the most important documents you can put in place, and one of the most commonly overlooked. MA'AT exists to change that. We support practitioners in building continuity plans that are clear, current, and ready to carry their work forward with care and integrity, whatever arises.

What Is a Professional Will for Practitioners?

A professional will is a document that outlines what should happen to your practice, your client records, and your active care relationships in the event you become incapacitated or pass away. It designates a continuity steward, someone trusted to carry your practice forward, and provides them with the information, access, and guidance they need to do so responsibly.

Unlike a personal will, which addresses financial and personal assets, a professional will addresses your clinical and professional responsibilities. It is a document rooted in ethics and care, not paperwork. For practitioners who carry a caseload, manage records, and hold ongoing responsibility for client wellbeing, it is not optional. It is part of what responsible practice looks like.

A professional will is the document. A continuity plan is the fuller structure that holds it, the steward, the systems, and the ongoing readiness that keep it usable when it is needed. The two terms describe different layers of the same work, and MA'AT supports practitioners through both.

Continuity Through Readiness: Practice Continuity Planning Services

MA'AT supports practitioners through every stage of continuity plan development, from building a plan for the first time to maintaining and activating one over time. Our services are designed to work together, providing preparation, ongoing stewardship, and coordinated response when critical moments occur. This is the Continuity Through Readiness dimension of MA'AT's work, the foundation that the rest of our services build on.

Continuity Activation and Setup

$1,500 one-time

A guided, collaborative process to build or refine a continuity plan aligned with your practice, professional responsibilities, and continuity goals. This includes organizing essential documentation, identifying and orienting your continuity steward, and establishing the foundational structure your practice needs to remain supported through transition or disruption.

This is where continuity planning for private practice begins. MA'AT works alongside you to ensure your plan reflects your actual practice, not a generic template.

Continuity Assurance

$75 per month or $900 annually

Preparedness is not a single task. It is an ongoing process. Continuity Assurance provides ongoing stewardship to help your plan remain current, organized, and actionable over time without requiring you to carry that responsibility alone.

Support includes continuity plan review and refinement, updates to essential contacts and documentation, annual steward confirmation, and ongoing continuity readiness consultation. This is continuity of care planning for the practitioner who wants to remain prepared without adding more to their plate.

Continuity Response Reserve

$3,500 reserve

A pre-established reserve designed to support timely continuity coordination and response during a critical moment. When something unexpected occurs, MA'AT activates your continuity plan and provides coordinated support to help carry it forward, including operational coordination, steward support, records coordination, and communication support.

Critical moments may include death, short or long-term incapacitation, missing person situations, detainment, natural disasters, geopolitical or civil disruptions, and other events affecting practice continuity or practitioner capacity. Additional services beyond the reserve scope may be billed separately in accordance with the professional service agreement and continuity needs involved

Record Stewardship

Care responsibilities do not always end when a practice changes. Record stewardship supports practitioners in maintaining records with clarity, structure, and continuity during periods of transition, retirement, closure, or incapacity.

Support may include record retention and disposition planning, secure storage and managed deletion aligned with required timelines, organization and audit of records, and coordination of records requests when a practitioner is unable to respond. Record stewardship practitioners need is often more complex than a single filing decision. MA'AT supports that complexity with steady, informed guidance.

Record stewardship services may be integrated into continuity planning or provided as standalone support, and this service also extends into MA'AT's work supporting practitioners through transition.

What MA'AT Supports You Through

Critical moments can take many forms. MA'AT's continuity services are designed to support practitioners through events including:

  • Death
  • Short or long-term incapacitation
  • Missing person situations
  • Detainment
  • Natural disasters
  • Geopolitical or civil disruptions
  • Any event affecting practice continuity or practitioner capacity

Practice closure planning is rarely something practitioners anticipate needing until they do. Having a continuity plan in place means your clients, your records, and your professional responsibilities are held with care, regardless of what arises.

Beyond Readiness: Connection and Growth

A strong continuity plan is the foundation, not the ceiling. Once readiness is in place, MA'AT also supports practitioners in building professional relationships through Aegis, exploring new ideas through Hygieia Innovation, and navigating the transitions that come with a growing or changing career. You bring the intention. MA'AT brings the structure, at every stage.
